Symantec Digital Library

DAM Platform: Getty Images Media Manager

The Symantec Digital Library (SDL) was a long-running sales and marketing materials DAM, serving Symantec's worldwide offices. Getty Images Media Manager was the DAM software and a fine partner for 17 years. Ann served as a consulting librarian to both Symantec and Getty Images. SDL was migrated to a new DAM in 2018.

The Creation: 2001–2003

Symantec engaged Ann in 2001 to guide them—soup to nuts—to a DAM system. She led a cross-functional team through needs assessment, user requirements, vendor selection, metadata and taxonomy creation, and file migration, culminating in the 2003 implementation.

Ongoing Library Management: 2003–2018

After launch, Ann co-managed the SDL as its librarian, and facilitated the cross-functional Symantec and Getty Images Steering group. SDL weathered a significant upgrade which was closely followed by migration to a completely new architecture in 2005. As a librarian, Ann provided content organization and archiving services, plus metadata updates and schema evaluations with an eye to keeping current with the Symantec organization as it changed over time. If new initiatives or new collections were needed, she provided a blend of consulting, planning, and implementation services to get to the goals. Workflow strategies, process improvements, deep listening, and evocative language are primary pillars for success. Ann loves those synergies.

“ We grew exponentially through acquisitions and global expansion. Launching a DAM was mission critical to delivering assets globally, fast and economically; we also needed to track assets from acquired companies for impending and future legal concerns. Ann is a very quick study; she understood business issues, complex internal relations, then moved quickly to solutions and implementation. We met our ROI in three years, saving an estimated $3,000,000 in direct expense and staff time. I’d say it was worth it!”
